Anti-Ragging Committee

The college has constituted Anti-Ragging Committee for the session 2023-24 to prevent the menace of ragging and foster healthy interpersonal relations among students in and outside the campus.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi vide its Notification no. 37-3/Legal/AICTE/2009 dated 25-03-2009 has taken a very serious view of ragging incidences in educational institutions across the country and on Directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India vide its Order dated 16.5.2007 has ordered strict implementation of the rules & regulations for Prevention and prohibition of Ragging in technical Institutions.

As per the order of Supreme Court of India and subsequent Notification from University Grants Commission (UGC), ragging constitutes one or more of any intention by any student or group of students on:

  • Any act of Indiscipline, Teasing or Handling with Rudeness.
  • Any act that Prevents, Disrupts the Regular Academic Activity.
  • Any activity which is likely to cause Annoyance, hardship, Psychological Harm or creates Fear or Apprehension.
  • Any Act of Financial Extortion or Forceful Expenditure.
  • Any Act of Physical Abuse causing Assault, Harm or danger to Health.
  • Any Act of abuse by spoken words, emails, SMS or public insult etc.
  • Any Act of injury or infringement of the fundamental right to the human dignity.
  • Any Act of Wrongful Confinement, Kidnapping, molesting or committing unnatural offences, use of criminal forces, trespass or intimidation.
  • Any unlawful assembly or conspiracy to ragging.

Objectives:

  • To aware the students about dehumanizing effect of ragging.
  • To keep a continuous watch and vigil over ragging to prevent its occurrence.
  • To stringently deal with the incidents of ragging if noticed.
  • To Prevent, Prohibit, and Redress any and all forms and instances of Ragging in and outside the college premises.
  • To educate the students on the meaning of ragging and what it constitutes.
  • To educate the students on the ill-effects of ragging and its consequence.
  • To conduct awareness programmes on the menace of ragging, its impact, consequences and redressal mechanisms available.
  • To enquire into any instances of ragging that have been reported, and if necessary, act against the students found to have indulged in ragging act.

Functions:

  • It shall be the duty of the Anti-Ragging Committee to ensure compliance with the provisions of theregulations as well as the provisions of any law for the time being in force concerning ragging; and also, to monitor and oversee the performance of the Anti-Ragging Squad in prevention of ragging in and outside campus premises.
  • Anti-Ragging Squad: It shall be the duty of the Anti-Ragging Squad to be called upon to make surprise raids at hostels, and other places vulnerable to incidents and having the potential for ragging.
  • To create the awareness about Anti Ragging act and punishments among the students and the appropriate law in force.
  • To create the awareness about Ragging constitutes (AICTE/UGC Regulation as per the directive of the Supreme Court Ragging CLAUSE 3).
  • To prohibit, prevent and eliminate the source of ragging including any conduct by any student or students whether by words spoken or written or by an act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness a fresher or any other student.
  • To prohibit undisciplined activities by any student or students this causes or is likely to cause hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear in any fresher.

Procedure:

  • The member Secretary, in consultation with the Chairman of the Committee, shall prepare a provisional agenda for meeting. It shall be circulated to all Members of the Committee two days before meeting. After the meeting, the Committee shall approve a report embodying its views, recommendations and decisions.

Tenure:

The tenure of the members shall be of one year.

Meeting:

The committee shall meet at least two times a year.
